The Role of Polyacrylamide in Concrete

Polyacrylamide flocculants can significantly improve the wrinkle strength, bond strength, bending toughness and wear resistance of cement concrete bridge deck pavement, and can reduce the compression ratio, permeability and shrinkage. Anions are generally recommended due to their high viscosity, low price and good water retention. We also use it as a thickener for putty powder, mortar and concrete, which fundamentally increases the viscosity of the product and has a wider range of applications. Both anionic and non-ionic products take advantage of their viscosity-increasing, water-retaining, flocculating, lubricating properties, and give full play to its unique application advantages.


1. Polyacrylamide can increase the density of concrete


Studies have shown that adding a small amount of organic polymers, such as PAM polyacrylamide, into cement concrete has become a new trend to improve the performance of cement concrete. Due to the long-chain structure of organic polymers and the rotation of the middle or segment of macromolecules, it has different elasticity and plasticity than inorganic non-metallic materials. Adding PAM polyacrylamide to concrete can improve the density of concrete. Polyacrylamide is a water-soluble polymer with good flocculation properties and can reduce frictional resistance between liquids. According to ionic properties, it can be divided into four types: non-ionic, anionic, cationic and amphoteric.


2. Polyacrylamide can improve the strength of cement concrete bridge deck pavement


Generally speaking, anionic polyacrylamide with a molecular weight of 16-18 million can be used as glue. If the molecular weight is too low, the yield will be significantly reduced and the quality cannot be guaranteed. Practice has proved that anionic pam polyacrylamide can improve the flexural strength, bond strength, flexural toughness and wear resistance of cement concrete bridge deck pavement, and reduce the compression-to-fold ratio, permeability and shrinkage rate. Depending on the customer reaction used, anionic polyacrylamide is generally suitable.


Cationic polyacrylamide plays a very different role in water treatment. Since polyacrylamide is widely used, and polyacrylamide is divided into different types, different types of polyacrylamide should handle different industries and use steps. At the same time, the role of polyacrylamide in water treatment is also very different. The main function of polyacrylamide in water treatment is to clarify and purify; the secondary function of polyacrylamide in water treatment is to promote precipitation. The main role of polyacrylamide in water treatment is to facilitate filtration. Cationic polyacrylamide products also have a thickening function.
