The Selection of PAM for Sludge Dewatering

Sludge dewatering is always the last link in industrial sewage treatment, which generally adopts PAM for sludge dewatering. At present, sludge dewatering can be divided into natural drying dewatering and mechanical dewatering.

Cationic PAM is often used as a water treatment agent for sludge dewatering. Different cationic PAM types are selected for dewatering treatment according to different conditions of the sludge. The working principle is as follows: The positive charges on the cationic PAM molecular chain can neutralize the negative charges in the sludge colloidal particles to speed up the sludge condensation. Meanwhile, a long molecular chain is used to coil the sludge particles together, which is mainly applied to the compression double electric layer and adsorption bridging function of cationic PAM.

Cationic PAM can be divided into three types according to the degree of the ion: weak cationic PAM, medium cationic PAM, and high cationic PAM. However, it does not mean that the higher the degree of the ion, the better the sludge dewatering effect. Sinofloc Chemical suggests that when using cationic PAM for sludge dewatering, users should first carry out an experiment and then go on the machine test to determine what ion degree of the cationic PAM type is more suitable, which can reduce the use cost on the one hand and enhance the use effect on the other hand. The dosage of solid granular or dry powder PAM products needs to be weighed first, then dissolve them in a stirring tank with water before use.
