Characteristics and Applications of NonIonic Polyacrylamide

Nonionic polyacrylamide PAM is made by copolymerization of acrylamide, so it not only has high purity, good solubility, high molecular weight, but also has a low degree of ionization linear polymer with high molecular weight. Therefore, nonionic polyacrylamide PAM has the functions of flocculation, dispersion, thickening, adhesion, film formation, gelation, and colloid stability.

Characteristics of nonionic polyacrylamide

Nonionic polyacrylamide PAM is mainly used for flocculation and sedimentation of various industrial wastewater, and clarification and disposal of precipitation. Many friends have little knowledge of this type of polyacrylamide. Today, I will introduce the characteristics, efficacy, and usage of nonionic polyacrylamide PAM. Non-ionic polyacrylamide is a water-soluble high molecular polymer or polyelectrolyte. The characteristics of nonionic polyacrylamide PAM can be simply divided into the following three points:

  • It has relatively good water solubility and can be completely dissolved even in cold water.

  • A small amount of nonionic polyacrylamide can exert a significant flocculation effect. It is beneficial for saving dosage.

  • It can be used in combination with other chemicals. When nonionic polyacrylamide is used in combination with inorganic flocculants (such as polymeric ferric sulfate), better effects can be achieved. In industrial production, nonionic polyacrylamide has good water solubility. It can fully meet various requirements in the disposal of waste solution, sludge concentration and dehydration, ore dressing, coal washing, papermaking, etc.

Applications of nonionic polyacrylamide

Wastewater treatment agent

When the suspended wastewater is acidic, it is more appropriate to use nonionic polyacrylamide as a flocculant. In this case, PAM plays an adsorption bridging role, causing suspended particles to flocculate and settle, achieving the purpose of purifying wastewater. It can also be used for the purification of tap water, especially when used in combination with inorganic flocculants, the effect in water treatment is better.

Textile industry additives

Generally, low molecular weight nonionic polyacrylamide is preferred. By adding some chemicals, it can be formulated into a chemical pulp for sizing textiles.

Sand fixing and solidification

Dissolving nonionic polyacrylamide into a 0.3% concentration, and adding crosslinking agents, spraying it on the desert can play a role in sand fixation and solidification.

Chemical grouting agent

A mixture of 9.5 parts of nonionic polyacrylamide and 0.5 parts of N, N'-methylene bisacrylamide can be used as a chemical grouting agent for dam, foundation, tunnel and other water-blocking purposes.

Oilfield plugging agent

Non-ionic polyacrylamide, when combined with cellulose, and added with certain chemical additives, is widely used as an oilfield profile control and water blocking agent.

Soil moisturizer

It is used as the basic raw material for soil moisturizers and various modified polyacrylamides. Adding a certain amount of nonionic polyacrylamide solution to fertilizer can act as a soil moisturizer.
